How to prevent bubbles in epoxy resin: a note I wish I'd had years ago

Bubbles in epoxy resin are usually a symptom of moisture or improper mixing, not just trapped air. The main causes I've seen are:

  • Resin stored in partially opened containers absorbing humidity (especially in coastal facilities)
  • Mixing at too high an RPM, introducing micro-bubbles that don't escape before gel time

When Lanxess isn't the right answer

Be honest: if you need 5 kg of a niche chemical for a one-off R&D project and your budget is tight, Lanxess is probably overkill. Their minimum order quantities and pricing reflect their focus on industrial-scale customers. For small quantities, a specialty distributor or lab supplier is more appropriate.

Also, if you need a product that Lanxess doesn't manufacture and they offer a rebranded third-party product, I've found the service isn't as strong. Their strength is on their own chemistry, not distributed commodities.

I can only speak to Lanxess's performance in North American and European markets. If you're procuring in a region where they use a distributor model instead of direct sales, your experience will depend heavily on that distributor's capabilities.

The bottom line: Lanxess earns its reputation through technical depth and supply chain reliability, not through promises. If you're a mid-to-large industrial operation with critical deadlines and complex formulations, they're worth the premium. If you need cheap and fast, there are cheaper options. But bring your own quality testing.
